A Winning Team

Due to Covid, it’s been two seasons of stopping and starting for the ambitious Golcar United. But the mighty green and black stripes are still favourites to get promoted from the North West Counties First Division into the Premier this season. As Golcar recently turned semi-pro, we’re very pleased at Crocodile to have been given an opportunity to partner with this rapidly developing football club.

We caught up with Golcar’s First Team Manager, Ash Connor, to see how they’re getting on during pre-season for 2021/22.

‘We’d won the West Riding League and the Huddersfield Cup double two years in a row,’ says Ash. ‘That’s when we decided to step up to a new challenge. It’s been a difficult two years as we all know, so it’s important that we’ve got great support like this.’

Crocodile believes in getting people together. That’s why we sponsored Golcar United’s First Team home kit, away kit, training kit and warm up gear. We’ve put our name on the brilliant new stand at the Skye Direct Stadium and we’ve built a veranda to support the bar. Good times. 

‘The veranda’s amazing,’ says Ash, ‘On match days you can get anywhere up to seventy people in there and it’s the perfect place to have a drink with friends and watch the game. And you know what, we do try and play a little bit too!’

Golcar’s attendance has been brilliant. In fact, they’ve hit the headlines for being one of the best supported clubs in the country. Crocodile’s own Chris North even gets down to watch a game or two. 

‘Gareth Southgate hasn’t been spotted in the new stand yet,’ says Chris, ‘But it’s only a matter of time.’

Ash played for Rotherham and Harrogate Town before signing for Golcar seven years ago. As a key player, and now in his second year as Manager, the club has gone from strength to strength. 

‘We’ve added five or six real quality players to the squad this year. As long as we get to play, we’re going places. The support that Crocodile has given us has been absolutely superb. As an outfit, I have to say, they’re absolutely first-class.’
